Our setting is incredible and our lodge gets very busy. We value hard work and team spirit. Feeling appreciated and successful is very important to us, and we want to foster those feelings in everyone who is part of our team. We are located 10 miles to the largest ski resort in the midwest, and 10 miles to Grand Marais, which is voted best small town in the midwest by USA Today. We like to fish, camp, hike, ski and share adventure stories with our guests.

We are looking for dependable and hard-working individuals who appreciate the great outdoors and are coming to the Cascade Lodge not only to work but to explore. We live in such an amazing place and would like to share it with other individuals who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, canoeing, skiing, and snowshoeing. We are open year-round with our peak season being summer. There is plenty of opportunity to really take advantage of time and explore this great area!

We offer year round shared employee housing with shared bath and kitchen at a rate of $14 per day.

NOTICE OF JOB OPPORTUNITY

RESORT WORKER

LUTSEN, MN

Cascade Lodge and Restaurants in Lutsen, MN, seeks 4 Resort Workers for temporary, full-time employment (04/01/2024 to 11/30/2024). Duties: Clean corridors, lobbies, and stairways, and guest rooms. Empty and clean trash containers; dispose of trash in a sanitary manner. Clean toilets, wash basins, mirrors, tubs and showers. Wipe down glass surfaces. Make up beds and change linens as required. Organize work schedule from the room status list, arrivals and departures. Distribute linen, towels and room supplies using wheeled carts or by hand. Organize and restock cart at the end of the shift. Sweep, scrub, mop, and polish floors. Vacuum and clean carpets, rugs, and draperies. Shampoo carpets, rugs, and upholstery. Dust and polish furniture and fittings. Wash windows as scheduled. Sort, wash, load, and unload laundry. Sort, fold, and put away clean laundry. Store all dirty laundry in line with company policy. Operate mechanized cleaning equipment. Maintain all cleaning equipment and materials in a safe and sanitary working condition. Monitor and report necessary repairs and replacements. Restock room supplies such as drinking glasses, soaps, shampoos, etc. Inspect and turn mattresses as scheduled. Check all appliances in rooms are in working order. Realign furniture and amenities according to prescribed layout. Deliver any requested housekeeping items to guest rooms. Ensure confidentiality and security of guest rooms. Follow all company safety and security procedures. Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards, observe and report damage of lodge property. Clean and sanitize restaurant tables, chairs, floors, restaurant restrooms, and kitchen area. Clear tables and wash dishes (pots, pans, plates, cutlery, and cups) using commercial dishwashing equipment. Wipe tables clean with sanitizer between guests. Assist with carrying food from kitchen to guests at the table. Assist and take customer orders at the restaurant front counter.

May perform other job duties pursuant to 37-2012.00, Maids and Housekeeping Cleaners; 37-2011: Janitors and Cleaners, Except Maids and Housekeeping Cleaners; 35-9021.00: Dishwashers; 35-3031.00: Waiters and Waitresses.

35+ hours/week. 7-hour shifts between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. 5 days per week, Sunday-Saturday. May work evenings, weekends, holidays, as needed. Schedule (including workdays) may vary. May work more than the guaranteed hours. May work overtime. OT varies and must be pre-approved.

Must have physical stamina and mobility including ability to reach, kneel and bend, lift, push and pull required load up to 30 pounds. No formal education, training or experience required. On-the-job training will be provided.

$16.44/hr; O/T $24.66/hr. Workers will be paid no less than the wage listed. Employer may pay higher wage rates to workers based on seniority with employer and level of skill. Overtime hours may vary.

Depending on work conditions, the employer may offer workers performing certain tasks during certain periods of the season an opportunity to earn an incentive bonus over and above the guaranteed rate of pay set forth above. If offered, such incentive bonuses will be based on the quantity and quality of work performed and offered to all workers working on the activity(ies) and during the time period(s) when such incentive bonuses are offered. If an incentive bonus is offered, the fact that the bonus is to be offered and the manner in which the bonus will be determined, will be explained to all affected workers before the start of any work period or activity subject to such a bonus. Incentive bonuses are offered at the sole discretion of the employer, and no bonus or opportunity to earn a bonus is promised or guaranteed.

Employer will provide daily transportation from 2 Morgan Road, Grand Marais MN 55604 to and from worksites, or employee may report directly to the worksite on their own.

Employer assurances pursuant to 20 CFR 655.20:

  • Single work week used in computing wages due.
  • Wages paid bi-weekly.
  • Work tools, supplies & equipment provided without cost to employee.
  • Workers have the option of employer-provided housing for $14 per day, and if elected, employer will deduct costs from worker's paycheck. Workers also have the option of securing their own lodging.
  • Employer will make all deductions from the worker’s paycheck required by law and any non-legally required payroll deductions permitted under the law and requested by Employee.
  • Upon 50% completion of work contract, employer will reimburse the worker for transportation & subsistence from place of recruitment to place of work within five days of receiving the expense receipts. Employer will issue reimbursement within the first workweek when required to meet FLSA minimum wage obligations. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, if the worker has no immediately subsequent H-2B employment, the employer will provide or pay for worker’s reasonable costs of return transportation & subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical & reasonable common carrier for the distances involved. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of at least $15.88 per day during travel to a maximum of $59.00 per day with receipts.
  • Employer will reimburse worker in the first work week for all visa, visa processing, border crossing & related fees, incl. those mandated by the government (excluding passport fees).
  • The employer guarantees to offer work for hours equal to at least three-fourths of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period.

KITCHEN HELPER

LUTSEN, MN

Cascade Lodge and Restaurant in Lutsen, MN, seeks 6 Kitchen Helpers for temporary, full-time employment (04/01/2024 to 11/30/2024). Duties: Prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and a variety of other kitchen equipment. Be familiar with and comply consistently with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies and procedures. Stock and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period. Portion food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications. Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, sauté burners, convection oven, flat top range and refrigeration equipment. Prepare item for broiling, grilling, frying, sautéing or other cooking methods by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning and/or marinating. Follow proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes. Handle, store and rotate all products properly. Assist with putting away delivery orders of food and supplies. Operate dish machine, clean dishes, workstations, cooking equipment, and food storage areas in accordance with food safety regulations. Perform food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed. Store ingredients according to prescribed food safety regulations. Close the kitchen properly and follow the closing checklist for kitchen stations. Assist others in closing the kitchen. Sweep and mop floors at the end of the closing shift. Report all damaged or faulty equipment to the Kitchen Manager. Attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Line Lead.

May perform other job duties pursuant to 35-2014.00, Cooks, Restaurant.
