Before gearing up for a long, snowy winter, it’s essential to enjoy the weather on Minnesota Bike Trails. What makes North Shore Bike Trails so desirable is that there are over 2,000 miles of trails to ride with little to no crowds. It’s the perfect recipe for a biker’s paradise. Whether you’re biking in Lutsen for your first time or you’re a regular to these trails, our Cascade Lodge staff recommends you check out our favorite paths to have a ride you’ll never forget. After cycling on some of the most scenic trails in Northern Minnesota, retreat to one of Cascade Lodge’s affordable, conveniently-located, and fully-equipped cabin rentals for a night of peace and quiet.
This paved, recreational trail is a safe option for visitors looking to bike, walk, jog, or in-line skate. Gitchi Gami is recognized as one of the easier Minnesota Bike Trails because you can either break the trail into segments or push through 10.41 miles each way. Gitchi Gami State Trail rides along Lake Superior Shore until you reach Superior National Forest. Be mindful while crossing multiple private driveways and the single highway crossing.
Trails throughout Pincushion Mountain offer a breathtaking view of Grand Marias’ harbor and lighthouse. To ride Pincushion Mountain Trails, start at Gunflint Trail. Prepare yourself for a moderate difficulty ride; elevation increases 1,440 feet throughout the nine miles of trails. There are several picnic tables and benches along to way so you can spend the whole day in this area. The Pincushion Mountain Trails are busiest from June through October, so you’ll likely have the trails to yourself.
Devil Track Lake Loop varies in difficulty depending on what section you ride. This trail is perfect for adventurous bikers because of its remote location, so this trail is mountain bike-friendly. Budget anywhere from 2.5 to 4 hours to complete the ride since it’s an 18-mile bike trail. Devil Track Loop Trail weaves in and out of 125-year-old pine trees on a combination of pavement, gravel, and snowmobile travels.
