January: Norpine Fat Tire Bike Race

Start the year off with one of the most exciting races on the North Shore. Norpine Fat Tire Bike Race is hosted at Cascade Lodge, so you'll have the best seat in the house. The event is made up of four races to choose from – The Long Pine Race (25 miles), the Short Pine Race (14 miles), the Norpine Fat Bike Classic Tour (14 miles), and the Norpine Fat Bike Classic Full Moon Tour (6-8 miles).

Jan. - April: Winter Watercolor Classes

Join artist Janet Moore for winter adventures in watercolor at Cascade Lodge. Janet will teach and demonstrate drawing, pen, ink, and Watercolor techniques. Whether a beginner or an experienced artist, you will come away inspired with renewed vision and appreciation for winter's beauty. All materials are provided for use during the class, and all experience levels are welcome. Families are encouraged to attend, but an adult should accompany children.

January: Winter Watercolor Techniques

The icy hues and brilliant skies of the north shore are the inspiration for creating memorable winter lake scapes. Explore some surprisingly simple and fun techniques for creating washes of color and capturing snow and ice textures while painting with water collected from Lake Superior.

February: Illustrated Nature Journals

Sketching and drawing are beautiful ways to slow down and look more deeply at the natural world. In this class, you'll make your simple sketchbook and then learn and practice pencil, pen, ink, and watercolor techniques. This will give you the basic skills to start an illustrated journal.

March: Winter Trees

Trees reveal their most exciting forms in winter. In this class, we'll use drawing, pen, ink, and watercolor to help us learn more about the trees around us, capture their unique features, and identify several area tree species from their winter twigs, needles, and bark texture.

April: Winter Waterfalls

Learn techniques in watercolor to capture the feeling of the water's movement, rocky riverbanks, and the emerging new life of spring. Whatever Mother Nature brings, you will be inspired and guided in creating your artistic impressions of your experience.
