Norpine Fat Bike Classic

The Annual Norpine Fat Bike Classic

Lutsen’s historic Cascade Lodge is proud to yet again sponsor the annual Norpine Fat Bike Classic, presented by the Superior Cycling Association. All proceeds go toward the Cycling Association and the Norpine Trail Association. Both organizations maintain Cook County’s world-renowned trail systems, including well-groomed pathways in Cascade Lodge’s own backyard. This year’s Norpine Fat Bike Classic will look and feel a little different due to COVID-19. Instead of a nail-biting race to the finish, this year’s Classic will be a socially-distanced, nine-day informal “fun run.” While the spirit of competition is important, keeping everyone safe and happy reigns supreme.

The Norpine Fat Bike Classic, a Late-January Tradition

The new Norpine Fat Bike Classic format does allow casual cyclists, novices, and even youngsters to participate without hesitation! While each Classic doesn’t possess a theme, 2021’s concept is simple, “Getting out to ride in the fresh, clean air is what we all need right now.” Cascade Lodge is once again playing host to the event, as pedalers will start and finish the course on our sprawling acreage. Participants will select a date (January 23-31), a course (14 miles or 20 miles), and instantly be put into a drawing.

The $50 entrance fee not only goes toward a terrific cause, but it includes a Norpine Trail Association membership, instant drawing entries, lunch at Cascade Lodge, a swag bag, and more! It’s the perfect way to embrace winter, explore the North Shore, and support two local nonprofit organizations. Parking, check-in, lunch, and drawings will all be held at Cascade Lodge.

A Winter Getaway to a Quintessential Lake Superior Lodge

Availability at Cascade Lodge remains limited in late January, but that’s likely to change as we draw nearer to the Norpine Fat Bike Classic. Because the event is now stretched across nine days, we’re expecting an influx of families and beginners who typically wouldn’t participate in the Classic. Therefore, there’s no time to waste! Simply browse through our historic cabins, main lodge rooms, luxury homes, and Basecamp units to find one that best suits your group’s size, style, and budget. Combine 14 or 20 miles of fat biking with a bevy of other quintessential North Shore activities, such as cross-country skiing, dog sledding, craft beer, frozen waterfalls, and, of course, snowshoeing inside the on-site Cascade River State Park.
