Fishing

Sport fishing on Lake Superior is an adventure like nothing else! Lake Superior has some of the best Trout and Salmon fishing in the world, and the remoteness of the North Shore helps fish stocks to maintain healthy levels. The awesome power of the world's largest fresh-water lake requires equipment and expertise that is usually found only on the world's sea coasts.

Cascade Lodge has teamed up with local charter captain Kelly Shepard of North Shore Outdoors, operating out of the Grand Marais harbor. Captain Kelly is a third-generation North Shore native and has been guiding fisherman, hunters, and photographers since the 1970s. His knowledge, experience, and eagerness to share them will help ensure that you have an experience you'll remember and cherish forever. All you need is a Minnesota fishing license and a trout stamp. Captain Kelly is a licensed charter captain with a 22' Bayliner Trophy hardtop boat and all the fishing gear and safety equipment required.

Ice fishing is another whole world up here on the North Shore. Walleyes hit minnows and jigs hard during the early ice season. Northern Pike of wall mounting size are always a possibility on nearly any lake. Crappies are more elusive but grow exceptionally large here. Midwinter is all about trout. Inquire about lakes producing lunkers. The ice fishing season on our border lakes lasts until mid-April.
